Recycled Print Brochure from I Love Dust

I've just stumbled across this recycled print brochure from I Love Dust. It features a lot of the techniques I have been researching for the Eco Gallery brief. I really like the die cut booklet. especially the dotted pages. They create a nice alternative to the block colour fills.

Design Context Book - Finished & Photographed

After feedback from two seperate crits and some good feedback I have developed my designs. I managed to get the final book printed on off white sugar paper and screen printed the hard mulchboard cover and paper band. I think this attention to process and detail has really boosted this brief and makes the book feel like a quality product which appropriately represents it's subject matter.

I would have ideally liked to use recycled stock but due to complications with folding and tearing I decided to stick with the sugar paper. The sugar paper absorbs the paper very well though amd works great with the monotone images.

Advocate/Mark Epton

I just found this website featuring the work of Mark Epton. His work has a commercial vibe and is quite varied. I think I will try to get in touch with Mark at some point soon to have a chat.

Ethical design
For 14 years I've worked with clients I'm passionate about – organisations and businesses doing good things. I use my expertise in brand articulation, visual communication and graphic design to help them make a social, environmental and ethical difference.

Walking the talk
Essentially, I sell ideas. So by default, Advocate has a light environmental footprint. What little electricity I use comes from renewable sources. I am part of the Carbon Watchers scheme to save energy, and this website is hosted on servers run by solar power. I use local, environmentally accredited (ISO 14001) printers and can advise on the best green printing practices. I’m based a short walk from Stonehouse train station with a direct service to London. And if I need to drive to a meeting I've got a fuel efficient car. Of course, I also recycle and I’m powered by Fairtrade organic tea!

Landfill Magazine - Sustainable paper.

Materials, Process, Print.

I got this book two Christmas' ago and it's been a great reference so far. I had a quick look through for sustainable print methods a while ago and thought that I would put it up here. I highly recommend getting a copy.

Design Project

Joe recently showed me this website for a graphic design company called 'design project'. It's a beautiful, simple website with a slick interface which displays the well-photographed work perfectly. They've done work for all sorts of clients. Their typography and processes used are what originally attracted me to their work. They've done all sorts for big clients such as D&AD.

Book Development Update

Mock Ups
I prepared these mock up experiments using monotone images. I also created some rough mock ups of the covers to show what they might look like and show how the book will be bound together and remain sturdy.

Crit Feedback & Development
The feedback I got was very helpful and encouraged me to keep experimenting with the monotone imagery in order to convey the sustainability concept. I plan to work with earthy colour tones that will work well as monotone imagery.
