UHC - Local & Global

I've looked at UHC many times before on my blog so there's no introduction necessary. I have been looking at their Art projects recently and their community led briefs. Today I've just sent an email to Sara from UHC (who I met up with last summer) to ask for a quote about these events and why they do them etc.

Here's some bits and bobs from their site, some info on what they do and a few pictures of their recent project ExtInked, aiming to raise awareness of extinct animals and the problem at hand. Some brilliant work, check out their website for more.

Pablo Lago

I found these through the indexhibit website, their website is really well made and doesn't feel like an indexhibit site. Have a look at Pablo Lago. I am considering redesigning the layout of my website to better accommodate the large captions.

Besides from the website their print based work is really nice and they apply branding well across a range of products. Similarly to what I plan to do.

Portfolio of Ben Crick

I have been flicking through behance featured portfolios lately and come across some brilliant work. This is the work of Ben Crick. All of this identity and type work is brilliant, I love the custom typefaces and the application of vector graphics to communicate the subject of the company.

Andy Young

Just found the work of a New Blood from Sheffield called Andy Young. He currently works as a Designer at Sheffield Design agency Iris Associates. Here's some of the work displayed on his site. There's some really clean, modern identity projects on there, I particularly like this bright yellow "Identity and promotional materials for an Exhibition at Sheffield Hallam showcasing work by the University’s MA Design students."

The League of Moveable Type

In two of my latest briefs I have been adapting typefaces to use less ink and for use as a stencil. I have been doing a lot of research into typeface design and keep coming across interesting websites. Here's a great site full of great information about type and a load of free typefaces. The League of Moveable Type

I am currently considering going back over a typeface brief to make my typefaces full type-able true fonts. These guys are on a mission to promote only the best free fonts, I hope I can have mine available on their. Here's a caption from their website...

"We're done with the tired old fontstacks of yesteryear. Enough with the limitations of the web, we won't have it. It's time to raise our standards. Here, you'll find only the most well-made, free & open-source, @font-face ready fonts.

Like any revolution, we aim to make progress, and we need help. If you want to be a part of this free, open-source type movement, you should join us and contribute. If you have any questions about The League or the movement, get in touch."

Akay & Peter

www.akayism.org is the online home of Akay & Peter, two Swedish artists who create unusual, practical works of art that utilise unused spaces.

This project below is one of my favourite ones, have a read of what they have to say about it...

"The city is a nice place you always think about escaping...

High in a rocky tree-covered area between two busy highways, a minature Swedish summer cottage painted traditional red with white trim suddenly appeared. Of course, it didn’t actually appear, klisterpete and akay carried it up there. They built the red picket fence to surround the tiny grassy area. They hung the clothes line across the yard. They brought the promise of the swedish countryside everyone wants to escape to, right into the middle of the city. They took an unused, unappreciated space and made it a charming and peaceful place of wonder despite the traffic below, the train passing on its tracks behind, buildings stretching out farther behind those...

What if more people made the places they ARE the places they WANT TO BE? It’s not so hard."

Improv Everywhere

I recently heard about these group in New York which organise large events that bring together volunteers to perform unusual scenarios. The scenarios usually include surprising the general public in a positive way and brightening up their day.

These guys are in a league of their own but there are many other groups all over that organise community events similar to this bringing together total strangers and reclaiming a communal space. I have recently heard of one in Leeds called Leeds Urban Playgound.

Welcome Back

Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce

Guerrilla Advertising

Guerrillaadvertising.ca I want to produce some advertisements to promote The Park events that utilise their environments to communicate more effectively to their target audience. I want to produce something which can be easily prepared and is fully removable from it's environment.

MobileMoment.ca
Using a stencil and a jet wash these adverts are made semi permanent and should last for quite a lot longer than chalk and they use no materials other than the tools used to create them.
